Resource Connection: Funding Opportunities for New Techs

The following is a list of grants for which New Tech High Schools may be eligible:

• NEA Foundation—$5,000 Student Achievement grants to support work that engages students in critical thinking and problem solving while improving their skills in habits of inquiry, self-directed learning and critical reflection. Applications can be submitted on June 1 or Oct. 15, 2010.

• Toshiba America Foundation—grant program for grades 7-12 teachers who develop projects that pique students’ curiosity, encourage students to develop scientific questions, and enlist the help of community partners. Applications are due Aug. 2, 2010.

• Entertainment Software Association Foundation—offers first-time grants up to $50,000 to support programs and opportunities that make a difference in the lives of young people. Applications are due April 15, 2010.

• Milken Family Foundation—awards grants for outstanding achievement in education.

• The Institute of Education Sciences—offers Education Research grants under 14 long-term research programs. The education technology; education policy, finance and systems; and mathematics and science education programs are most pertinent to New Tech schools. Letters of intent may be due as early as April 29, 2010. Applications only are accepted twice a year.
